Depending on your child's preference divide the oz or mL by the number of feedings for a per feeding amount. Each child eats differently, some kids want more milk with longer periods in between. Other babies was less milk more frequently. Just go with what works for You and Baby!

Above describes the typical needs based on age for Breastmilk and/or Formula.

If your child varies due to a chronic condition or disorder please utilize your pediatrician for a pediatric dietician consult. Dietitians go to school just like other healthcare professionals and specialize in formulating plans to keep kids healthy as they grow. Their education and experience provides a support in situations when hitting nutritional goals is difficult.

This is one more resource to utilize for education, support, and an individualized diet.

When breastfeeding, measuring amount baby is getting can be difficult, these guidelines help parents understand what the around about number is based on age. Formula feeding and exclusively pumping parents can start with current recommendations and vary within the guidelines.

The trouble with meeting babies needs often comes when mom's breastfeed and pump due to work or other times away from baby.

Current pumps help mimic breastfeeding and help moms bring home what their baby is missing while they are away. But just because the pumps have advanced doesn’t mean that mom is given the time to adequately pump at work or while away. If breastfeeding is an important goal never let anyone else's timeline get in the way of what you need to do to feed your baby. If pumping is not your goal or is not feasible in your time away, supplementing with formula is a great option.

No mater what any quack-a-doodle says, formula and breastmilk both provide your child with all the things they need, and they are going to be eating french fries off the floor of your car in a few years anyway. To start supplementing without pumping

and measuring what baby is getting at each feeding just start within the above guideline and work up or down until baby is satisfied.

A little trick when utilizing formula and breastmilk is realizing that some babies do not like a change in the consistency of their feeding. Sometimes the premixed formula can cause baby to rebel and simply switching to the powder or a different brand helps with making the consistencies more equal.

The most important part of this post is that each feeding parent knows they SPARKLE. Taking care of babies is hard work and no mater how the job gets done, FED IS BEST! Please remember in the beginning months breastfeeding, formula feeding, and pumping are all extremely time consuming. It seems as if one feeding runs right into the next but it wont be like this forever and there will be a time you look back and think "Oh it wasn't that bad"!
