Resources for Breastfeeding Parents:
Ø Pumping and Dumping is not always necessary
o Anytime a feeding parent is taking a medication or is diagnosed with a condition is it important to discuss the impact on breastfeeding with your healthcare professional. With OTC (over the counter) medications a simple call to your local pharmacist can provide great information.
o The most conclusive alcohol evidence shows if the breastfeeding parent is not too intoxicated to pump then the milk is ok to use and does not need to be dumped.
Ø There are many causes, simple and complex, that impact supply.
o Causes can range from stress, diet/hydration, hormonal changes, and or disease.
Ø Work/Family life Support.
o Kellymom and La Leche League provide evidence based practice and individualized support for all feeding parents.
